SC School Garden program at the SC Landscape & Nursery Association Tradeshow at they Myrtle Beach convention center!!!!




In the pictures above you can see the event in which the SC Department of Agriculture had a booth freaturing the SC School Garden program at the SC Landscape & Nursery Association Tradeshow at they Myrtle Beach convention center. The Trade show was from Feb. 4-6 with hundreds of vendors showcasing products that support the landscape and nursery assocation. The Department's goal was to raise awareness of the SC School Garden program and to facilitate relationships between horticulture professionals and school garden programs. These horticulture professionals can be a great resource for teachers and schools planning and implementing school garden programs.

Agritourism celebration in northeast South Carolina with Ag cited!

Join farmers, artisans and agricultural professionals as they celebrate agritourism in northeast South Carolina with Ag-Cited™! Ag-Cited™ is an agritourism initiative created by the Florence Convention & Visitors Bureau. The intent of Ag-Cited™ is to increase tourism in the northeast region, primarily the Pee Dee, by offering family-friendly events every weekend of a season, beginning March 20th.

Follow the modern tobacco growing process - from the coatings on the seeds to make them large enough to handle, to the planting in the greenhouses. Grown hydroponically, the plants are given a quick mowing by the automated cutters to ensure large leaf size once planted. Additional displays provide an insight into the modern machinery to harvest and cure the golden leaf.

Thursday and Friday are open for school groups to plant vegetables and/or flowers. Come for a farm tour, educational activities and an egg hunt. On Saturday, there is a planting demonstration, an egg hunt and other activities for children. Saturday is open for church groups, Girl and Boy Scouts, and the general public.

L.W. Paul Living History Farm is gearin’ up the mule to set tobacco and plant corn for the summer. Come out and join them as they recreate old days on the farm. The farm uses traditional tools and techniques for planting and cultivating crops. The public is invited to try their hand at setting tobacco with hand setters, and see mules work the fields. There will be various demonstrations of traditional crafts and music, including blacksmithing, butter making and soap making. Food and gifts are available for purchase in the visitors center.
